Class details

Rare Seeds & Letterpress Workshop
Ages: Adult
Cost : $245
Location: Gallery Studio, Bldg #46
Instructors: Holly Wren Spaulding, Cathie Royer & Phil Driscoll
Saturday, Apr. 23rd at 9:30 am - 4:00 pm & Sunday, Apr. 24th at 9:30 am - 12:00 pm
On the first day, nationally known poet Holly Wren Spaulding will lecture and offer students close reading and guided writing experience in the morning. Students will revise their work and give peer feedback in the afternoon. Students will explore the uses of persona in writing and will focus on the role plants can have in the creative process. Lunch is provided in this workshop. Please bring a notebook and a writing utensil.

On the second day, ACA letterpress artists, Cathie Royer & Phil Driscoll, will share how typeface choices and the use of white space can be integral to the poem and finished piece. Platen and proofing presses and a variety of wood and metal types allow printing broadsheets and/or more intimate prints. Letterpress lends itself to multiples; students will select one or more prints for the ACA to exhibit in the Croswell Opera House Theater Gallery in July and take the others home. The Letterpress Classroom is in a historical building. Participants will have to use stairs.
