Intro to Encaustic Artmaking w/Taina Mantey

Encaustics are beeswax-based painting mediums. It has been used for centuries and offers a multitude of creative uses. In this introductory class, you will learn some basics of working with this fun medium, then get working. Encaustics can be used as a strictly painting medium, as a surface for ceramics and sculptures, or in a collage/mixed media approach...there are endless opportunities. The instructor will have hot plates, heat guns, and an encaustic medium for everyone to share. Students will receive a set of 16 basic encaustic wax colors to keep, other colors may be available to purchase from the instructor. Please look over the list of suggested items to bring as well. The more you have, the more fun you can have!

Materials to bring: Bring brushes (you won't be able to reuse them for anything else), canvases or other surfaces to create on wood, fabric, bisque ceramics if you like, bring fabrics, doo-dads, photos, and notions, found objects, carving tools, or old silverware...heck, bring the kitchen sink! The more you have on hand, the more you can experiment with.
